Our Team

Nigel Haan, Owner and Project Manager at Windy Hill Construction

Nigel Haan

Owner & Project Manager

Nigel Haan is an Electromechanical Technician by trade with a background that spans construction, project management, product development, and technical design. Throughout his career, he has worked on a wide range of projects, from custom equipment and manufacturing initiatives to large-scale commercial renovations and residential construction.

He helped develop equipment that continues to be manufactured on PEI today and later managed a $7 million aquaculture facility renovation, coordinating complex schedules, subcontractors, budgets, and technical requirements. These experiences reinforced the importance of planning, communication, and attention to detail—principles that continue to guide every Windy Hill project.

Nigel founded Windy Hill Construction to bring together his passion for building, problem-solving, and thoughtful design. He enjoys the challenge of turning ideas into well-executed projects and believes successful construction comes from taking ownership of every stage of the process, from planning and budgeting through to the final details.

For Nigel, construction isn't just about building houses—it's about earning trust, delivering quality workmanship, and creating homes that clients can be proud of for decades to come.

Alex Doucette, Lead Hand at Windy Hill Construction

Alex Doucette

Foreman

Alex brings more than 11 years of construction experience to the Windy Hill team and serves as one of our Lead Hands on site. A Red Seal carpenter, he is known for his strong framing skills, steady leadership, and practical approach to problem-solving.

Alex enjoys the challenge of turning plans into reality and takes particular pride in structural work, especially framing and ICF construction. His experience and attention to detail help keep projects moving efficiently while maintaining the high standards our clients expect.

Passionate about quality construction, Alex is especially interested in high-performance building methods and would one day love to be involved in the construction of a passive home. Whether leading a crew, laying out a complex framing package, or helping solve site challenges, Alex brings consistency, experience, and craftsmanship to every project.

Josh Gallant, Carpenter at Windy Hill Construction

Josh Gallant

Lead finish carpenter

Josh Gallant brings more than a decade of construction experience to the Windy Hill crew. After completing a business diploma and spending several years working out west, he made a deliberate move into the trades—starting in framing before expanding into trim and finish carpentry, commercial union work, renovations, and eventually running his own one-man contracting business before joining Windy Hill. He's at his best across the entire building process, equally comfortable with structural framing and detailed finish work.

Known to past crews as “Widdler”—a nod to the love of woodworking that first drew him into carpentry—Josh takes pride in the full arc of a project, from setting footings and foundations, to watching a structure take shape, to the interior and exterior details that bring a home to life.

Through years of personal projects, he's also developed a strong skillset in tile work, earned through trial, error, and a lot of research. His dream build is a timber-framed luxury home joined entirely with traditional wood joinery and no fasteners—the kind of craftsmanship-focused project that reflects the pride and attention to detail he brings to every job.

Josh Martin, Carpenter at Windy Hill Construction

Josh Martin

LEAD Carpenter

Josh Martin is a Red Seal carpenter with ten years in the trade. He came to construction looking for hands-on work, time outdoors, and the satisfaction that comes from building something tangible each day. Carpentry turned out to be a natural fit, and a decade later, being on site and working with his hands remains his favorite part of the job.

Over the years, Josh has worked on a wide variety of residential construction projects, developing a reputation as a dependable carpenter who takes pride in doing things properly. He values a clean, organized job site and believes good work starts with good habits, attention to detail, and consistency from day one through completion.

On the crew, Josh is known for his positive attitude and steady presence. He's often the one keeping morale up when the days get long and helping maintain the kind of team environment that makes challenging projects enjoyable.

The project he'd most like to take on is a traditional timber-frame build — the kind of craftsmanship-focused work that rewards patience, precision, and a deep respect for the trade.

Derek MacLeod, Apprentice Carpenter at Windy Hill Construction

Derek MacLeod

Carpenter's apprentice

Derek MacLeod came to carpentry after nearly 25 years in retail. Years of helping friends build and renovate homes turned a side interest into a full career change, and he hasn't looked back. Today, he's a willing, do-anything member of the crew — organizing the site, moving material, cutting, and taking on whatever the day throws at him.

What he values most is the work itself: the crew, the constant learning, and the new challenges that come up day to day. He's particular about keeping a site organized and clean — not for its own sake, but because an efficient site is a better-run one — and he has little patience for standing around when there's work to be done.

Derek's goal is refreshingly simple: keep learning every aspect of the trade and get a little better at it every day. That attitude, paired with a sense of humor that keeps the crew laughing, makes him a real asset on any build.
